Readers have been keen to notify CBD of the bona fides of Chris Scott, the main man behind G8 - our most voracious childcare operator since ABC Learning.
CBD was well acquainted with Scott's role at S8, the travel agency consolidator run by Scott and his G8 chairman, Jenny Hutson.
Scott was one of the many losers when he sold the business to investment group MFS, which subsequently imploded.
A few years after the sale - but before the implosion - Scott was in a wrangle with the Office of Fair Trading in Queensland over his reign at S8.
It alleged that an S8 subsidiary he founded, Driftcove, was overcharging the owners of apartments it was letting.
It ended in 2010 with a $130,000 fine and an agreement by Scott to never again operate as a resident letting agent in Queensland.
"Ultimately, I didn't have enough money to defend [a claim] against the state of Queensland," he said in 2011. "They've got more money than me."
So he has been effectively banned from ever renting out property, as an agent, in Queensland, but he can run the biggest listed childcare operation in the country which is attempting to get even bigger via a takeover of Affinity Education.
