To me it looks like Kent was using the fact Gaetz was in serious trouble as leverage to get Matt's father to kick in money for the rescue of Levinson and make Matt a hero. Probably bad form on Kent's part but it doesn't look like it was extortion or he would release more dirt to me. In any event it doesn't change the fact Geatz is a being investigated by the FBI for being a sex trafficker which started under Trump crony Bill Barr.
