Galan Lithium up 30% on discovery of highly conductive brines in third hole at Candelas

Galan Lithium Ltd (ASX:GLN) has intersected highly conductive brines in its third drill hole at the Candelas Lithium Brine Project in Hombre Muerto, Argentina.
The upper levels of a brine bearing aquifer were encountered from about 280 metres with the hole open at depth.
This hole is about 2.5 kilometres southeast of the maiden drill hole which provided results including 192 metres at 802 mg/I lithium with low impurities on March 11, 2019.
Shares are up more than 30% to 30 cents.

Galan’s managing director Juan Pablo Vargas de la Vega said: “The discovery of further brines within the Candelas channel reinforces our view that the project has the very real potential to host a significant lithium resource in one of the world’s premium salars at Hombre Muerto.
“I look forward to updating shareholders as we continue drilling the third hole.”

The geological sequence in the third hole is similar to the maiden drill hole incorporating a layer of ignimbrite lying below surficial alluvial cover.
The hole then encountered a sequence of sands and clays hosting salty waters which then at about 280 metres turned to brines hosted within a permeable breccia-conglomerate.


Hombre Muerto is proven to host the highest grade and lowest impurity levels within Argentina.
It is home to Livent Corp’s (NYSE:LTHM) El Fenix operation and Galaxy Resources Limited (ASX:GXY) and POSCO’s Sal de Vida projects.

Galan’s primary target is the adjoining Candelas channel target, a 15-kilometre-long by 3-5 kilometre-wide valley filled channel which recent geophysics has indicated the potential to host a substantial volume of brine.
