I think that's it. Picking bottoms is near impossible so buying on a sustainable rise is good practice. Selling at a top is just as difficult. That's why trailing stops work so well imo.
I remember listening to a finance show on ABC radio in 2007ish and a chartist rang up and emphatically said there was a monumental crash coming... he was roundly scoffed at by the panel for his use of the dark art....
