interesting article, albeit very inflammatory and populistic. Unfortunately many developing nations see only dollar signs and benefits for foreign companies and shareholders, rather than the risks and deep pockets that is necessary to find and develop oil. They fail to understand that even in a very prospective target like Samo, there is a very high risk that the oil companies will lose all their invested money. And most exploration targets have much greater chances of being a dry hole than a commercial discovery.

Nobody is really "stealing" Gambian oil, the foreign oil companies are taking all the risks. But this is generally very difficult for people outside the industry to really get a handle on.
