tobacco was once a major supporter of sports. when tobacco advertising was banned, alcohol took over as the major sponsors. then online gambling apps took over with much bigger advertising budgets.
ban gambling ads and some other businesses will have time slots they can fill. there are always businesses wanting to support sport as they get their name in front of more people. its a very popular sector for advertising.
imo they should be treating alcohol and gambling the same as they do tobacco. all 3 are highly addictive, damaging to families and social cultures and cost the nation enormously when addictions develop to the extent that criminal behaviour is involved to feed the addiction.
