Wood Mackenzie upstream analyst Matt Howell believes the flurry of domgas supply deals are certainly a response to the threat of the Australian Domestic Gas Security Mechanism.
"It's them [Santos] getting on the front foot and supplying gas into the domestic gas market on as close to their terms as they can, rather than being dictated to by the government," Howell told Energy News.
"On our estimates for 2018, there is no shortfall, and 2019 it's closing, based on demand and production from the existing fields on the east coast.
