Hailed as the “holy grail” of electric vehicle (EV) batteries, solid-state batteries have been the target of many automakers, especially those chasing for an EV breakthrough.
A handful of auto giants have also been eyeing to produce commercially viable solid-state batteries — which would be more stable and faster to charge than the lithium-ion batteries used today.
In short, solid-state batteries allow you to drive your EVs over 300 miles on one charge and can be completely recharged in just ten minutes. They could also occupy far less physical space.
That being said, the race to achieve huge improvements in battery technology is one of the most expensive and hotly contested commodity right now.
The aim is to avoid the use of expensive materials like rare earths needed for lithium-ion batteries.
