Reposting with the correct stock quote!
I experienced an example of this high frequency trading last week.
The AMX quote was something like 47c bid, 48c offer. So I went to place a bid on screen for 47.5c. My buy order was filled without me even seeing it placed on screen as a bid.
This is ridiculous. It meant the average investor didn't even get a chance to sell into my buy order.
So it follows the average investor will also not even get a chance to purchase parcels of shares that are being offered. They will be snapped up by a favoured high frequency trader before we can even see the offers placed on screen.
