    Hi Mark409

Just thought I'd add to your post with a few little corrections.
Photovoltaic Cells (PV) don't work at night.
Most PVs on domestic homes don't use batteries, as the excess power produced during daylight is exported from the home into the "grid".
At night these homes would draw their electricity from the power grid not from batteries as these storage systems are too costly and inefficient to run.
The average PV cell located on someone's home requires more energy to manufacture (embodied energy) than it can produce during its estimated working life. It's unfortunate, but that's just the way it is with current manufacturing technologies.
We all think that Solar is "free energy from the sun" when in fact it's doing more harm to our environment than not using it.
I believe we should be focussing on improving the efficiency and safety of the electricity production systems that we currently use.
I visited a nuclear power plant in Toronto 25 years ago which is still operating without incident to this day. Nuclear can be sustainable and safe.

It's about time we all stopped getting emotional about the energy sector and started looking at the facts and used more of our collective intelligence to design safer and more efficient nuclear power plants combined with better methods of disposing of the waste material.
