Realising a profit each time I sell means I have to pay tax on the realised portion. Your right, holding for 12 mths does have tax benefits especially in respect to capital gains tax where you only apply 50% of the gain for tax purposes.

But my situation is a little different given that I am a full time trader and my trades are treated as income. POH is a strong speculative stock of mine which I try to reduce my avg price on by shorting part of my holdings with a view to buying back at a cheaper price. Normally I would not be down to 25% of my holding in POH having sold 75% recently but the trading halt has prevented me from topping up below 17. It appears that there are some here which think i will not get the opportunity to buy under 17c again but I think differently.
