    It’s pretty simple. Only one of two things can be true:
    either a) Lynas operations directly result in elevated radioactivity levels or heightened levels of hazardous chemical compounds/heavy metals in the surrounding area, any of which are above safe levels and will certainly result in negative effects to human health and the environment, or
    Or b) Lynas operations are 100% safe and any risk of the above is managed resulting in no effect whatsoever on the surrounding area.

    If a) then Lynas should never have been licenced and shouldn’t be allowed to operate until 100% safety is guaranteed
    If b) then the British constitutional system ensures the Malaysian legal system is the final recourse and no politician in whatever official position is above it.

    There is no need for appeasement or defeatism. All Lynas need to do if they are confident of their case is negotiate an amicable outcome with MESTECC, failing that, appeal to the PM and his Cabinet and as a last resort, follow the legal process which will certainly find in their favour. I doubt it will get further than the PM/Cabinet and a more competent minister will be running MESTECC.
