Don't worry. First, the debt ceiling will be raised.
Second, here in the US we have a secret weapon - he is called Mr money-printing Bernanke. If the US Fed sees a hint of a major pull back they will simply turn on the money printing machines and we will have QE3, then QE4 and so on.
Sure that might result in a very very bad ending here in the US. But it won't happen for a while yet simply because there is money money everywhere and nowhere else to put it except into the markets.
Interest rates are close to zero, or negative in some cases, while things like houses are out of the question to invest in right now. The average US investor (not me) also still believes stocks are better than gold, silver or commodities.
