Shane - absolutely no reason why any gap should be filled other than the market invariably seeking to smooth out jerky movements.
A gap 3 years ago is way too long ago to be considered even to someone who trades off and believes in gap theory.
If the gap is filled it is only because of the relentless drop in REE prices.
