Hey, not sure, its one of those technicals I've always noted. A Gap is the price difference between a close price and the next open price. If there is a jump ( gap ), say BHP closed at $30.15, then opens the next day at $30.45, at some point share trading must cover that gap, and trading again at $30.15/16. Cant really tell you why, other than at some point in the future the gap is filled. Have a look at any chart with a candlestick, you will see the gaps. It may take some time, even a few years, but it will happen. Just seems to be one of those technicals that happen. If anyone can enlighten us on the technicals, please post.
The only exception I have noted is a bid for company and its taken over.
