Heya DT,
....there is the Herd Immunity thing happening with the HPV vaxx.
From the BMJ looking at the australian results.
http://www.bmj.com/content/346/bmj.f2032
They looked at genital warts in the vaccination period in short, women
under 21 year old (92.6%) —from 11.5% in 2007 to 0.85% in 2011 (P<0.001)
For hetero men, who didn't get the vaxx
under 21 year old (81.8%) --from 12.1% in 2007 to 2.2% in 2011 (P<0.001)
Notice the p-value!
Now the conclusion for this states,
Large declines in diagnoses of genital warts in heterosexual men are probably due to herd immunity.
A little digging in deeper, the reason they say "probably" is because the main outcome measure was to test the vaccination. So the herd immunity that the males benefited from wasn't being tested...
So if you see a paper that finds "many things proved" - it's probably bad science at best, pseudoscience at worst. What am I saying -- its probably crap.
All these other results are good for hypothesis generation....each hypothesis which needs to be tested for "proof".
Just my 2.2c worth (GST incl.)
