Garden Island Progress (Satellite Images)

For a while now I've been trying to find up-to-date satellite imagery of the Garden Island site. Today I succeeded!

For those not familiar with the site, Google Maps have fairly up to date high-res imagery of the CCE compound:

Note that you can see the fence, the gate, and there are a number of sheds and containers. Google maps shows no sign of the solar installation, but that's no surprise, the images were almost certainly taken before June.

Here's what I found today: TerraServer has new images each month, and the September 18, 2017 image shows progress on clearing the site for the solar array:


The cleared area roughly matches what I'd previously calculated as the required area for the array.

I didn't want to post high-res images for copyright reasons, but if you go to the TerraServer site you can view zoomed in versions. (Or pay for high-res files).

To preview the highest resolution images:

- Go here: https://www.terraserver.com/view?search_text=garden island western australia

- Scroll to the southern part of the island.

- Select the 2017-09-18 version in the "Image Drawer" on the left

- Click "Check Purchase Options" (lower center of the screen)

- Preview the high-resolution version by selecting "Premium" resolution from the list on the right, then move the mouse over the image at left to preview zoomed in.

By previewing the "Premium" resolution you can get a good sense that the ground has been cleared (better than what I posted above), but there are no other obvious construction works.

Anyhow, that was September 18, over one month ago. I'm not sure when the October 18 image goes online but I look forward to checking it out.
