    human excrement? I've heard those rumours, I just hope it's not true. Maybe we should ask the big chain retailers for proof! From what I've heard though, is that they're bleached/sprayed to prevent them from growing shoots; in other words, they kill them off, so to speak. The thing is, they are so light that buying one bulb grown from somewhere more 'desirable' (usually the purple ones) won't break the budget. But about 3 months ago on talkback radio, they had a segment dedicated to garlic as the world at that point was suffering a major garlic shortage.

    Now that we're heading into spring it might be a good idea to start growing them early. Maybe a mini home made green house might be the way to go. Has anyone had any luck?
