It appears that Prof Ross Garnaut will present his Draft Report on Climate Change on Friday 4 July at the National Press Club scheduled to be broadcast 12.30 pm ABCTV1. This will give a good indication of what should be contained in the Final Report at end Sept. Kevin Rudd has already said on a number of occasions recently that the Government will respond with a Green Paper and then a White Paper by the end of the year.
Despite the dismal funding allocated in the Budget for geothermal energy up to 2010 (next election year) there may be some prospects here of a significant implementation policy. We can't assume that this will happen automatically and therefore it may require some considerable pressure from informed people who can write a succinct diplomatic but firm letter to one of Martin Ferguson, Penny Wong, or Kevin Rudd. Many of the posters here make excellent contributions and clearly have the ability to write convincing points. It would be great if people here listened to or read carefully such Reports so as to be informed and to select issues that could be raised. The key time for writing would probably be early October but some earlier letters would help to sharpen the need for geothermal support.
