All I see when Garret shows his face is an ex-greenie who threw away all his beliefs to become Labor's next 'famous entertainer' minister. Everything Garret has touched has turned to ...errr...DUST! He is just plainly incompetent.
I wasn't inspired by either on Q&A. Just a load of expected cliches about teaching philosophies from both sides of the fence pampering to the responses they think people want to hear. In the end it's pretty simple. Good teachers are required to create good learning. To attract good teachers you need to pay them accordingly. Teachers should be paid on quality, not time in the system. Too much deadwood suck the highest salaries. Whilst appropriate resources are important, a good teacher will excel with limited resources. Too many good teachers leave the system because of the unfairness. Reward the performers, sack the deadwood and you will get a result.
It's not about the money in the system, it's about the quality. According to world standards, Australia is going backwards. Yet more money has been thrown at the education system. You can keep throwing money into a bottomless pit, but that's not going to magically induce a better system.
