It's all very secretive and full of disinformation? see article below for some of the tricks
"Of the uncertainty, Coskey gave an example of one well that was reported to be producing only about 20 barrels a day, after costing over $3-million to drill. The well was sold, and the new owner has now reported pumping between 480 and 650 barrels per day.
There may have been a little disinformation going out, Coskey said as the audience chuckled, surmising the first owner may have low-balled production numbers until he could pick up additional mineral leases in the area."http://www.casperjournal.com/articles/2010/11/24/news/news50.oil%20play.txt
and then there is this
"He cited another well in Colorado that had produced 81-thousand barrels of oil, and 49-thousand cubic feet of natural gas, since September of last year. It is those numbers that have oilmen jumping in, including companies like Halliburton and Shell. Coskey listed some 13 companies in his talk.
Coskey cited mineral leases in Colorado that, two years ago, were selling for $50 an acre, now going for as much as $6,000, while, in Wyoming, he noted similar numbers of $10 an acre leases selling for $3,200"
Can't say i'm surprised when it comes to this industry.
