I wouldnt be so sure about that. They are literally dropping in shipping container sized batteries, which are now 10x more capacity than merely 2-3 yrs ago, into substations, even the substations themselves are becoming redundant, they will be replaced with just batteries and software.
besides, you are missing the point, even it costs a lot, its still already basically on par with coal and gas and only going cheaper. Yes lots of money to spend, but it's less than gas/coal even excluding political biases
gas is destined for chemical feedstock and some peaking during the transition but, I think the transition will be alot shorter than we suspect.
10 years ago this field made sense, massive domestic gas shortfalls, massive lng plant shortfall for sto, sto needing shit tonne of third party gas. All those things still remain but the next gen technology windows is coming and gas projects will only get harder to get up

my next prediction is, we have state EA but waiting on feds, i can almost spidey sense some major horseshit coming down the pipe re federal approval. If plibersek keeps on form, the approval will likely make the project impossible, maybe thats what sto and gina are waiting to see
