Onerous gas contract terms and lack of gas sales opportunities including sharp price rises for gas, combined with demanding take-or-pay provisions, are putting huge pressure on some manufacturers.

Situation is becoming so bad that it has driven industrial gas buyers to consider on-site generation options and direct long-term renewable energy supply contracts as a partial hedge against escalating energy prices.

It said one of its clients had seen gas prices on a 12-month contract increase across all states, including an 81 per cent jump in Victoria, while customers coming off 24-month contracts would likely see even bigger increases.

So Central, if industry is screaming for new gas sales, where are our gas sales contracts?????
