Just to be pedantic.
I think that Australia used to produce enough gas for it's own needs.
Then decided to develop some reserves for export using overseas purchase contracts to underpin the investment.
Nobody in Australia wanted to buy the, at the time, more expensive gas.
Makng the mistake of tying Eastern domestic gas prices to world prices.
I don't know how you can fix that retrospectively without introducing sovereign risk.
Of course future developments might include reservation policies.
But would that make them less viable?
Probably depends on the price people are willing to pay.
