Farmers should be held responsible for the amount of chemicals (including 2 4 - D), yes its still fashionable in the cropping set, they tip on the ground every year. They should be held accountable for the long term damage they are doing to our foodbasket - eventually the environment is going to say enough. To some extent the amount of nitrogen being pumped into the ground to maintain productivity levels is the beginning of the end.

Who is responsible for maintaining a watch on the cavalier approach to chemicals etc???? We still see landholders clearing trees to "improve" their country, again who will be held accountable when the ecosystems eventually fall over?

We also see massive exploitation of aquifers by Irrigators. There is some monitoring but very little enforcement, nor is there a clear understanding of the long term damage being done. In NSW particularly the land barons are screaming about water security - any dill can see that the water being extracted from coal seams is way below the Great Artesian Basin (GAB). And yet its CSG who are being regarded as the terrible exploiters. Ask any landholder and they can vouch for the serious level drops when the big irrigators get pumping!!!!
