Its sad that there is a small proportion of the population(percentage wise) in countries like the USA and even Australia that are vulnerable to crazy conspiracy theories. I feel sorry for these people as they clearly have some sort of mental affliction that drives their vulnerability.

The ones I don't feel sorry for are those that actually don’t believe the crazy nonsense, but for perceived political or monetary gain take advantage of these vulnerable individuals and egg them on. Trump did that and so did a swag of Republican lawmakers and alternative media pundits. They miscalculated though and the net result is that the Republican Party has lost what were two of the most solidly Republican States and lost the Presidency, the House and the Senate.

The Republicans are likely to have lost even more support following the storming of the Capitol by the mob incited by Trump and some reckless Republican representatives. Given President Biden easily won the November election any further reduction in support for the Republican Party caused by the Trump incitement will likely result in their decimation in the next election. Trump has been a disaster for the USA and the Republican Party.
