I think you might be twisting the conversation once again. What people did was provide references which weren't the patents you wanted - but they tried. They also pointed out that patents had been the topic of many discussions on the board and some posts indicated that patents weren't the only or the most important criteria for them. The range of views was a lot more varied than you are now suggesting.
One could of course note that notwithstanding GR's comment about the patents, he invested heavily and continues to put his money where his mouth is.
So I guess using your own reasoning he is comfortable with the situation or believes it is in hand.

As for the luck you've wished us on many occasions I am going to count rather more on effective management, the right products, the right environment and good process plus a bunch of happy customers
