This is typical of the left wing elite - they think that only their views count and that everyone else is unable to form their own opinions.
Not surprising from a judge - these guys are part of the federal public service that have given themselves golden handshakes on retirement - in the private sector this would be seen as an inherent conflict of interest.
There should be a second question on the plebiscite and that is whether or not public servants defined benefits should be means and age tested like the rest of us.
The current federal liability for federal public servants is approx. $200 billion - $120 billion has been put aside in the future fund but we are still short $80 billion. Do Kevin Rudd, Natasha Scott Despoja along with federal judges etc etc really need to get paid hundreds of thousands a year.
Most of these guys are already loaded or in the case of Despoja she is already double dipping by being Australias ambassador for Women to the UN - whatever the hell that involves.
The money saved by means testing could be used to pay of debt, go to soldiers suffering PTSD or fund the disability scheme - much more worthy causes.
Also Kirby should remember it was the gays who raised the whole same sex marriage issue in the first place - if they didn't want to get offended then they should have kept their mouth shut - at the end of the day politics doesn't belong in the bedroom.
