If there is a reason to put the question then it has to be by a referendum so that the people can decide.
It has to be remembered that with the Irish vote approximately 30% of the people voted yes. 70% either did not vote or said no
That is hardly an overwhelming endorsement in favor of changing the definition of the word marriage
The gay community appears to want the marriage tag so that they can feel good about their lifestyle choice, they already have almost if not all the legal rights.
To change the definition of marriage it is the equivalence of changing the goal posts with retrospective law. why should I have my marriage nullified just to make people who want to follow an alternative life style feel happy about themselves and their choices, it will not make them in most peoples eyes, any more credible or morally correct
