Thorburn, Religions have rules about what marriage means to them, however in our society the worst they can do if you don't conform is to kick you out. They don't have to marry anyone they don't want.
If marriage is about morals it is not government business in my view. Governments are about public servants, law and police. They don't enforce morals or manners. Religions use to record marriage.
Bigamy is a crime for good reason where it involves fraud. Given modern morals should a man be restricted to marrying only one other man or can a whole footy team get married?
