Parrot, You take a very restricted view of marriage, consider other cultures;
1) What does it matter if its two people? The descrimination against polygamy has gone on too long. Many religions and countries have recognised each the wisdom of polygamy. Marriage can be between any number of beings.
2) Similarly the notion that they must conform to a subjective notion of 'loving each other'is absurd. Many cultures have embraced arranged marriage with great success.
3) Males or females, surely this is a matter for the participants.
4) Good tast restricts me from raising the cultural practices of New Zealanders.
My point is that our government once tried to legislate the moral, cultural choice of the majority. Once it stops doing that it should leave the field completely.
