    I think the point is most of us that get married aren't Christians. My wife and I got married because its a nice ritual to let others know we plan/hope to spend our lives together. That is the essense of what "married" is. Its easy to understand why gay people who want to commit to a life long partner also want to get married. Not some legal/cold 'civil union' - a 'marriage'.

    How on earth could allowing gay people to use the word marriage as well have any downside to straight people?

    tawnyport - I agree with your post and am horrified by Siameseparot's post!

    Better ban infertile people from marrying. Should also make it illegal to get married and not have kids.

    And yeah the world is really strugling with a declining population....
