Gazprom and Sonatrach may agree soon



RBC, 22.01.2007, Moscow 19:38:56.Gazprom and Sonatrach, the Algerian state oil and gas company, are poised to reach some agreements on joint projects in the near future, the press office of the Russian gas holding said. At today's meeting of the joint coordinating committee the parties agreed to keep looking into mutual commercial proposals.

Earlier, Gazprom's official was quoted as saying in Algeria on a working visit that Gazprom had made some specific proposals with regard to the latter's participation in eight development projects. As a preliminary step, the Algerian company outlined four projects that could be of interest to it, and is analyzing the proposals. The cooperation between Gazprom and Sonatrach is possible in North Africa (Libya, Mauritania, Mali) and Central Africa. Cooperation with Sonatrach would grant Gazpom access to the markets of Southern Europe (Spain, Portugal, south of Italy), while Sonatrach was offered help in reaching the markets of Northern Europe.
