but as I mentioned, this is negative expect value… booking gains to pay tax on it immediately, I would take a wild guess that nobody is actively trying to lose money to the tax man. not sure what you mean by “balancing their books”… if you’re talking about portfolio rebalancing, that happens at fixed intervals in the market sure, but funds investing in micros don’t need to rebalance on any mandate… why would somebody intentionally try to pay transaction costs and tax costs to rebalance when they aren’t trying to rebalance since their buying back next month?
