I think there may be some possibilities for federal government funding of transmission infrastructure once things are proven a bit more. In Garnaut's final report (Chapter 19), Garnaut argued that the $20 billion Building Australia Fund should be extended to cover energy infrastructure. It will be very interesting to see whether this recommendation is adopted.
