    First of all in reponse to the article posted.Apparently different elements such as Thorium and Uranium,carbon or even Phosphorus have different mass and atomic number individually.
    The geigercounters is designes specificlly to detect for radioactive and specifically aim at each individual elememt(ie atomic number).
