I don't propose to understand either, but he has his reasons. One has to remember that there are plenty of other investment options around given the state of markets and despite suffering some loss here, he may see a better return for his money elsewhere.

He might be going long in Buffet's BH Class A. I suspect there is going to massive returns there over the next 5 years with its low price options over some of the world's big players.
