Occupancy levels, lack of transparency and staff development.
Occupancy Levels: select 60 centres, 20 each from Queensland, New South Wales and Victoria. Each centre has 15 enrolments sessions per week. 0 - 24 months, 25 - 36 months and 36 months to school age. Three per day, five days per week is 15 sessions.
For 20 centres that's 300 sessions.
I took a group from Queensland, a different group in NSW and a small group plus individual centres from Victoria. The highest utilisation of the three groups were the NSW centres, with 89 full sessions out of a possible 300.
Lack of Transparency: it's always been an issue. IMO there is a disconnect in communication with shareholders. During questioning about the effect of reduced ratio's from January this year and the strategies to be put in place to minimise reduced revenue, I noted, it was, IMO dismissed as trivial, which we know it wasn't and remains an issue for many centres, not only G8s. There has still been no communication regarding the adjustment to reduced ratios.
Staff Development: crucial to improving occupancy. Need to treat each centre individually. Looking at the needs of the families, the children and the staff within each centre and planning the staff development around those needs. No blanket approach.
