Children are allowed 42 days of absences per year. They still receive government subsidies for those days as they still hold that enrolled position within the centre, so in effect the position remains occupied.
The information on vacancies is available on www.mychild.gov.au and is easily monitored. There are many centres, not part of the G8 group who are struggling with occupancy, many of them the victims of local councils granting planning permission in suburbs already saturated with services.
