While you raise a very good point, I wouldnt hold my breath that common sense will follow their late realisation of the processed critical minerals situation they find themselves in.
While the US has a great history of leaning into challenges and hardnessing a society that'll collaborate to a common goal, in each historic case they had leaders that could unite their society. They had leaders that their allies could appeal to and in turn have the statesmanship that the West basically gave them stewardship in leading the 'free' world.
As we watch LA burn, tarrifs stressing US corporations and their economy the spector of tarrif related inflation, the dispair of NATO at a time of increasing challenges, the lack of guidance in the Middle-East, and the inflammation of tensions in the Asian-Pacific, I'm not convinced we see a Roosevelt type New Deal, or an unswerving Kennedy who statements near peers heeded. Sure, I bet there's investors ready to get on board for domestic US production and export, but does the rest of the West really want to be beholden to a president whose erratic behaviour has trade in knots? To be fair, China's recent behaviour with critcal minerals supply is a direct result of Trump's carry on.
If I'm honest, I'd much prefer the US buy IXRs wares from the UK and Brazil. Hell, wouldn't it be great if Australia could hold the crown in this realm.
