To me now, IXR's Ionic Technologies intellectual property IS the company's most valuable asset, transforming from a specialized magnet recycling technology into a versatile platform capable of addressing the entire rare earth separation spectrum. The proprietary Multifunctional Amide Ionic Liquids (MAIL) technology now represents a strategic cornerstone for global rare earth supply chain diversification.
The April 2022 acquisition of Seren Technologies Limited provided IXR with established intellectual property, a proven team, and specialized knowledge in rare earth separation. The acquisition delivered exclusive "patent and know-how" licensing from Queens University Belfast for MAIL technology, supplemented by four additional global patents that SerenTech had developed. This foundational IP has since evolved into a comprehensive separation platform with demonstrated capability for near complete extraction of REOs from both lower quality spent magnets and mining concentrates.
The MAIL technology represents a step-up in efficient, non-hazardous, and economically viable processing with minimal environmental footprint. Key performance metrics demonstrate revolutionary improvements over conventional methods, achieving two orders of magnitude higher selectivity for rare earth metal separation and reducing separation stages from over 150 stages to 10–15 stages. The technology has proven capable of producinghigh purity separated rare earth oxides with grades exceeding 99.5% from variable feedstock source.
Proving the MREC Process in Brazil, The recent BNDES/FINEP selection for Brazilian government funding represents unprecedented validation of Ionic Technologies' IP value, The technology's versatility extends beyond magnet recycling to processing Mixed Rare Earth Carbonate (MREC) from ionic adsorption clay concentrates. This capability positions Ionic Technologies as a global first mover in providing comprehensive separation solutions for both primary mining operations and circular economy applications. The Belfast demonstration plant has successfully processed MREC samples from the Makuutu project, validating the technology's effectiveness across different feedstock types.
