Ive always preferred to find my own metrics on when to buy. When the news firms up to something more solid that is supported by positive price movements, I find it to be a better method that assists prevent my investment money being tied up for years and missing out on other opportunities.

The only time I allowed myself to get caught up in exuberance, and then because I followed someone I know who demonstrably made a lot of money from investing, got a bit burnt. If Im honest, the price of that stock was going up with the exciting news until it wasn't. But because of my 'faith' in the stock i saw merit in price averaging down... until I saw that stock had a disproportionate allocation in my portfolio.

Fortunately, other events returned greater profitability across my portfolio, but I learned a very valuable lesson: to listen to all voices (of course within a certain context), even if I dont particularly like that voice/post/person. And as I reflect back, there were certain voices that others summarily rounded upon with the most egregious of ad hominem attacks. And all for what? A difference of opinion, one that turned out to be wise.

In simple cautionary clichè or stereotypes: the used car salesman generally always appears as your mate and always pointing out the upside. Conversly, the teacher or parent that actually has your best interests at heart is often the last person one wanted to listen to about risks.

And I'll never feel the need to apologise to those who use derisive personal attacks and baseless allegations towards someone with a different point of view. Particularly when that person pleads the aggrieved victim after the contested voice returns serve, and even more so when the return serve was typically jocular and obviously tongue-in-cheek.

I'm glad we can all share in the excitement.
