UK Industrial Strategy vs. UK Critical Minerals Strategy, both released today

Next is the one we really want, the UK Critical Minerals Strategy 2025, Rare Earths + Critical Minerals sector-specific funding announcements

The Industrial Strategy is designed to set the overall framework for economic growth and sectoral priorities (like advanced manufacturing, clean energy, and automotive), while referencing the upcoming Critical Minerals Strategy for specifics.

Forthcoming Dedicated Critical Minerals Strategy 2025, will include rare earths as a priority area

    This strategy is expected to

    1. Set specific targets for domestic production, processing, and recycling of rare earths.
    2. Outline funding mechanisms and support for projects like rare earth separation, recycling, and supply chain resilience.
    3. Address the UK's dependency on imports (especially from China) and the need for secure, resilient supply chains

Industrial Strategy’s Role (Invest 2035) released today with Advance Manufacturing

    1. The Industrial Strategy mentions “critical minerals” as a foundational industry and highlights their importance for IS-8 sectors (clean energy, advanced manufacturing, etc.), but does not go into detail on any one mineral or technology.
    2. It references the need for sector-specific strategies and funding, with the Critical Minerals Strategy cited as the vehicle for rare earths and other key materials.

Rare earths are not detailed in the main Industrial Strategy 2025 (Invest 2035) because they'll be addressed in depth in the UK Critical Minerals Strategy 2025 and sector-specific funding policies. The government intentionally keeps these policy areas distinct to allow for more targeted, flexible, and responsive action as geopolitical and market conditions evolve.

The forthcoming 2025 Critical Minerals Strategy will provide the detailed rare earth policy framework that complements rather than duplicates the Industrial Strategy's broader economic vision. This separation ensures that rare earth elements receive the specialized attention their strategic importance and technical complexity require, while maintaining integration with overall economic policy through coordinated institutional structures and funding mechanisms.

Looking good folks, remembering that the Commercial Plant Funding has been advancing with the ATF Application for a while now.
