    What prompted Uganda to enact this anti-gay legislation? Thats a genuine question.
    I thought Uganda was not an intensely religious country? ie it is not a Muslim country, is it?
    so is it just a political decision?? I have no idea.

    I think IXR would have some avenues to circumvent the new US laws - not the least that the US and European countries are desperate to secure supplies of these rare earths. I would see that the West's needs for rare earths would override the issue of gay rights in far off Uganda? So maybe US just pays lip-service to the gay lobby/voters in US??
    This is all above my pay grade.

    Anyway, from the above extracts, it looks like Uganda has only lost its "duty free tax status" on imported goods - ie so no ban on Ugandan imports into US ?
