There's no logic, it's purely psychological. Having a $50 share is seen as more robust and less volatile than a 1 cent 'penny' stock, especially in the US, irrespective of whether they have the same market cap. The only benefit I can see is that it deters traders, and to some degree shorting, because they cant play the pips as easily. Having said that, I'm struggling to remember any ASX consolidation that ended positively, it was just another expensive window dressing exercise.
