I see rare earths as a bit of a China hedge. Trump is talking up more tariffs with China. If that happens china may restrict rare earth exports and bang price goes up exponentially. Also if there are ever any geopolitical actions that cause sanctions to be imposed then the equal and opposite reaction would be no export of rare earths from china causing the price to sky rocket. It is entirely unpredictable but at some point in the future there will be an event like the 2011 style burst out in the price of rare earths. If it ever happens just remember to sell.
