This is a really good article: https://www.lowyinstitute.org/the-interpreter/antimony-hidden-metal-fuelling-global-competition
Having Antimony is one thing and being able to process it is another. A bit like the lithium conundrum. Hopefully the US wont make the same mistake twice and invest in the processing/manufacturing straight away. If they've learnt anything, they need to go hard and fast.
Australia is just too small of an economy with too high costs to justify world leading chemical processing & as the article points out, there is limited benefit to low level processing.
I still find it hard to believe Nvida rely on Tawain for manufacturing and iphones are made in China.
The US has to bring this all back in house sooner or later, or have production in a low labour cost nation they can exert more influence on.
China is basically getting all this confidential IP for free and using it to build their own businesses.
The world is waking up, but isn't prepared for the huge cost increase and initial living standard drop. Global politicians know this, but China has beaten them at their own game, the only way to weene the world off cheap china products is to accept a lower living standard,,more productive labour force and we will slowy move away from globalisation (find the right balance)
Antimony is about much more than Antimony.
This is also driving the gold price.
