Let's not get into the politics of the energy debate too much on an EXR thread.

The only thing worth highlighting is that gas is the obvious short-term choice to provide our base load as the coal stations reach end of life. Both under Labor (who wouldn't have enough renewables online to fill the gap left by the coal fired power stations) and under the Liberals (who won't have an operating nuclear power plant until 2040 and will als need to fill the gap with Gas).

Safe to say that IF Grandis is commercial, we will have a very strong domestic gas market. Not even considering the export market. The gas shortfall has already started - cold snaps in Vic have seen the spot price go up to $28.
