Lithium has a number of technical reasons why it is the element of choice (energy density etc), and there is no rewriting the laws of physics and chemistry. Of course there are other chemistries, but the biggest tick in Lithium's favour for battery chemistry (and variants within the lithium dominant sphere), is that the bets have already been made! Especially by China. For the foreseeable future, all other battery chemistries and fuel systems will be merely a distraction (particularly for anything requiring mobility), apart from the odd niche application. The dominant chemistry from here on out will be lithium based.
