The slam of the gold price was to be expected with global sell offs of markets. Gold contracts gets sold to finance losses elsewhere.
During the GFC gold went down a lot before going up for the next 3 years. Anyways, it will go up again as QE is now guaranteed for the next years.
The selling could continue for a while longer but long term nothing has changed imo
